History of Bhiwandi……
Famous as the city of
weavers,
the history of Bhiwandi is filled with many significant events. The city
Bhimdi,
which came into being during the reign of King Bhimdev, later became
Bhiwandi.
The geographical structure of Bhiwandi is ideal from a commercial point of
view.
The textile industry came to be known in this city, which is at a strategic
location of waterways and land routes.
Bhimdi alias Bhiwandi is a historical town that came into being during the
reign of King Bhimdev. Islampur is also mentioned in some Persian letters
during
Muslim rule. Another hypothesis is that the Bimba kings who came from the
north
first conquered Bhiwandi and then conquered Thane. First Bimba won Bhiwandi
as
'Bimbasthan'. Later the name Bhiwandi was formed from Bimbasthana. Bhiwandi
is
famous as a city of weavers. The enterprising city of Bhiwandi, which has
catered to the basic textile needs of millions of Indians for centuries, has
a
glorious history of cultural formation. Looking at Thane Gazette, Mumbai
Gazette
and historical documents etc. The history of Bhiwandi can be traced back
to
the eighth century.
In Thane Gazetteer Chapter 19 Page no. A look at the history of the name
Bhimdi
alias Bhiwandi from 986 onwards sheds light on how close Hindu-Muslim
harmony
was at that time. A Muslim saint from Baghdad Sheikh Hussain Qadri alias Pir
Shah Hussain Saheb left Baghdad and came to Bijapur Emperor Adil Shah. Adil
Shah
died around that time. Hussain Saheb managed the administration of Adilshah
for
17 years and when the prince became fit to rule, handed over all the power
of
Bijapur to him and waited for Bhiwandi. Around this time, when the
Portuguese
tried to oust a Hindu king named 'Bhima' in Bhiwandi, Pir Hussain Saheb
helped
the Hindu king Bhima and drove the Portuguese away. This Muslim saint who
helped
the Hindu king came to be known as 'Baba Diwanshah'. Baba Diwanshah's dargah
is
still famous in Bhiwandi and every year a big urus is held at this place.
Thousands of Hindus and Muslims visit the dargah in this Urusa. etc. This
land was consecrated by Shivaji Maharaj in 1657. It is a historic Bhiwandi
that
preserves the footprints of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje (1683) and the great
Bajirao Peshwa (1720 AD).
As Bhiwandi's geographical structure is strategically located along
waterways
and land routes that are ideal for trade, enterprising weavers from all
corners
of India have taken the name of Bhiwandi to the world stage in the
production of
textiles through traditional handlooms and later powerlooms. Factories for
manufacturing looms and spare parts of looms, bullock cart wheels, rice
mills,
rice mill machinery were started. Roads started to be built. The surrounding
world began to come closer. The winds of reform and the events happening
around
began to make sense. The importance of freedom and sovereignty started to be
understood and then the Hindu-Muslim men and women of Bhiwandi started
joining
the Indian freedom struggle with one accord.
Gajanan alias Kaka Naik, a fifth-generation descendant of Gangaji Naik of
Anjur, who played an important role in Chimaji Appa's Vasai struggle, joined
the
freedom fighter Savarkar's organization. Thane B. J. He was expelled for 11
months from high school due to the campaign he started through Shiv Jayanti
Utsav, Ram Navami, Ganapati Utsav etc while studying in high school. Later,
in
1912, Kaka Naik was convicted of sedition and sentenced to 18 months
imprisonment and a fine of Rs 200 under Section 124A. Uncle Naik was later
stationed in the Nashik jail during the 1942 agitation as well.

held a public meeting at Bhiwandi on 10 March 1918 along with Panvel,

that meeting he was given a bag of five thousand, Tatyasaheb Kelkar and

movement. The meeting was held in front of the Jumma Masjid in the center of
the
city. Ali brothers were also given a certificate of honor by the then mayor
Madhavrao Tamhane. An unprecedented vision of Hindu-Muslim unity took place
in
Bhiwandi on the occasion of Khilapat movement. The participation of the
freedom
fighters of Bhiwandi in the Indian freedom movement is huge. The freedom
fighters of Bhiwandi have shown that India's freedom stands on the sacrifice
of
countless men and women from different walks of life, caste and religion.
Electricity came to Bhiwandi in 1923 and in 1926 the great industrialist of
Bhiwandi Kai. G. G. The first thermal power station was started with the
efforts
of alias Dadasaheb Dandekar and in 1927, Prophet Vasi Khansaheb Samadsheth
brought the first loom in Bhiwandi. Hence, he is gloriously mentioned as the
father of looms in Bhiwandi. Kai Dadasaheb Dandekar and Mr. Khansaheb
Samadsheth, two visionary men have etched their name forever in the history
of
Bhiwandi as architects who made Bhiwandi a modern industrial city. The world
market of Mumbai, which was just a stone's throw away, helped the industrial
development of Bhiwandi. Over the past 60 years, modern powerlooms have
produced
cups made from synthetic yarns such as silk, viscose and synthetics, along
with
cotton fabrics.
